Watershed - A Virtual Art Exhibit

The Bonnechere River Watershed Project partnered on an exhibit at the South of 60 Arts Centre in Barry's Bay, entitled "Watershed', which ran from June 17 to July 17, 2011. The juried exhibition, which was inspired by the work of the Bonnechere River Watershed Project, featured works inspired by the Madawaska and Bonnechere River watersheds. The intention of the exhibition was to reflect on the role that humans play in stewardship and respect for water. A short video clip of the Watershed Exhibit at South of 60 Arts Centre in Barry's Bay ON can be found on our YouTube channel.

With permission from the artists, we have reproduced the pieces from the exhibit here, by way of this "virtual exhibit". We hope you enjoy!

Oxbow on Bonnechere River - Oil

"Oxbows are a feature of the meandering Bonnechere River.

This Spring when the river's flood waters covered our hiking trail my son and I were forced to stop by this one, so I painted it." KYH

"Waterfalls, big and small, feed our rivers in the spring, the gushing splashing falls entrance me that time of year. I wanted to try to capture their elusive nature."

"The Madawaska is a narrow river in the places I generally visit. The far shore undulates and reflects the high banks, filled with life; trees, plant and small animals, birds, ahh the haunting sound of the wood thrush. The patterns of colour reflected always intrigues me."

Madawaska Morning

Photography

Though not a morning person, I found myself awake and drawn to wander around Burnstown early one spring morning - with my camera of course! I soon discovered that the Madawaska River never disappoints at this time of day, at this time of year...

Loon's Aura

Carbon Steel

"My grandfather taught me as a child how to talk to a loon with my hands... creating the sound has allowed me to call to many loon's while kayaking various waterways in the ottawa valley giving opportunity to study their form and movement. This piece was inspired by those interactions."
